Glass Technology vs. Recycling – Edwanex at LUXE PACK 2024
At the end of October, Edwanex exhibited at LUXE PACK Monaco 2024 – a trade event focusing on luxury packaging. This has become our tradition. We attend this event each year and collect many interesting memories. This year, the event was well organized (as always) and had a great atmosphere. We especially admired the glass bottle that won the main Formes de Luxe prize. It embodies the important bond between glass technology and recycling. It brings memories of the times at Edwanex when the glass cullet was recycled. Read for more.
Edwanex at LUXE PACK 2024
We always attend LUXE PACK as exhibitors. Thanks to this fact, we can showcase our products and network with important players in the industry. Also, this year, we had our own stand presenting our flagship glass products. There were elegant glass bottles we had developed and produced for two alcoholic beverage brands, namely White Feather and Belvedere.
The above-mentioned products had marked their presence at LUXE PACK in the previous years. Edwanex was awarded the prestigious Formes de Luxe prize twice during the trade event in Monaco. In 2023 the glass bottle Belvedere 10 – very slim, made of 360 triangles, almost impossible to manufacture – bought us the first place in the “Wine & Spirits Bottle” category. In addition, in 2020 we were the best in the “Most Innovative Luxury Packaging for the Premium Alcohol Brands” category thanks to the White Feather bottle, and elaborately decorated one with a special cavity inside.
Eco Face of Formes de Luxe 2024
This year we did not take part in the Formes de Luxe competition. However, we carefully examined the nominated glass bottles and we could not wait for the results. We greatly admired each project. And the winner in the “Wines, Spirits & Beverages Bottle” was… Domaine des Hautes Glaces bottle for organic whiskey.
The square bottle immediately attracted our attention – its shape was designed to optimize shipping and require special skills from the glassmaker. The bottom of the bottle includes an intricately finished 3D model of a French mountain range Obiou. What’s most important is that it is made of 100% recycled glass. Going eco-friendly counts!
Glass Technology and Recycling at Edwanex
This year’s winner has inspired us to think about the ecology at Edwanex in the past, especially regarding recycling glass cullet. The beginning of our glass factory was marked with the 3R rule, namely, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Back then 100% of our glass products were made of recycled glass. Reusing glass was easier thanks to the rules and regulations at that time. Glass cullet was extremely important for manufacturing at Edwanex. We created a network of connections with local entrepreneurs. We remelted glass from bottles from a nearby dairy cooperative and also delivered the finished product to suppliers and customers in our area. Nothing was wasted. Thanks to this, we significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions related to transport – and this was happening at a time when this topic had not been so popular yet.
Now glass recycling has become more complicated for many reasons – especially because manufacturing for premium alcohol brands has become our main focus. Our bottles are super flint which means completely opaque glass allowing us to highlight the unique shades of expensive alcoholic beverages. Due to the limited availability of high-quality glass cullet, we do not currently use recycled glass other than ours. This would risk losing the unique color. However, we can reuse our own cullet without any problems.
What memories will bring the next LUXE PACK Monaco? We will find out in 2025. We are going to exhibit again, showcase unique glass packaging, and follow the next Forme de Luxe nominations.
